Member of Family: Nymphalidae
The appearance of this chiefly western species varies widely across its range. In Ontario, it is confined to the North and West of the province ( so it is rarely seen by most observers ). The individual pictured at upper right was somewhat worn and does not have the strong "frosted" or "hoary" look along the outer portion of the underside. Normally, the underside would have a more "two-toned" appearance, as shown at lower left.
