Oak Hairstreak (Satyrium favonius)

This Butterfly is extremely rare in Ontario, and has only been reported in a few places in the extreme Southwest of the province. Further south in the US, the red spots near the tail of this butterfly are more prominent than they are on Ontario specimens (as in the individual pictured above). Further south, the red spots become even more prominent.
Note that in some resources, the English name for this species is given as the "Southern Hairstreak", and the older Scientific name is Fixsenia favonius.
