This is a common species in Northern Ontario. There are some old records from Algonquin and South Western Quebec, but it seems that this species has retreated Northward about midway through the last century. There is considerable variability in the colour of the female upperside, with some individuals looking more pale/faded than the one at upper left, or more brownish, and with more or less orange in the tail area. On the underside, some individuals have even smaller dark spots than the male shown at lower right, and some females with larger spots than the one shown at lower left.
