This Butterfly is extremely rare in Ontario, and has only been reported in a few places in the extreme Southwest of the province. Further south in the US, where I have seen it, the red spots near the tail are more prominent, as in the individual shown above. Even further south, the red spots become even more prominent.
Note that in some resources, the English name for this species is given as the "Southern Hairstreak", and the older Scientific name is "Fixsenia favonius".
